BARRE TALK

Longer, Harder, Better.

As we sailed into the newness of 2015 at Barre Motion, it became apparent that things were about to get even more interesting. I was witnessing my instructors intuitively amping up the level of challenge of the Signature Motion classes for our members who had been regularly taking them. I had observed clients who were holding poses longer, working through movements more fluidly, and pushing themselves more intensely toward mastery. I knew that our studio was ready to take things to the next level. I sat down with the other Master Instructor at Barre Motion, Amy Foster Berntsen, and together, we constructed a format for an advanced class that would reflect the genius of the Signature Motion class, while introducing a whole new level of challenge. We spent considerable time in the design-test-evaluate cycle until we had something that we knew was unique, innovative, and worthy of our discerning clientele. We named the new format Advanced Motion.

Advanced Motion classes challenge clients to reach beyond their current skills to achieve new levels of strength, stamina, and flexibility. Advanced Motion has been designed for experienced clients, who are prepared to handle a faster paced class, incorporating advanced movements at the barre that are intensely focused on major muscle groups. The format consists of longer, more challenging exertion sequences, very efficient stretch sequences, briefer transitions (hence less recovery) between movements, and the exclusive use of advanced options throughout the class, including cardio-focused elements. Students who incorporate the advanced class into their Barre Motion routine see body-transforming results even faster.

The first time I taught the Advanced Motion class, I was so proud of what we had created because of the positive responses of the clients in the class. They loved it, and I loved teaching it! The first time I took Advanced Motion as a student (with Amy teaching), I was euphoric! Steve, our Manager of Operations and Community Relations, still describes the look on my face when I came out of that class. I was speechless! I knew that we had absolutely nailed it!

I immediately added Advanced Motion to the schedule 6 times per week, with a class on the schedule everyday except Sunday. Advanced Motion classes are only taught by Barre Motion Master Instructors. Amy teaches it at 7:45am on Mondays, 9:30am on Thursdays, and 8:30am on Saturdays. I teach it at 7:45am on Tuesdays, 9:30am on Wednesdays, and 10:45am on Fridays.

If you think you are ready for Advanced Motion, talk to Amy or me. We will help you gauge your readiness while encouraging you on your path to mastery, every step of the way.
